The Caffeine in green tea, oolong tea and black tea

Some people concern the caffeine in tea, although it is far away less than coffee. It can be determined by the harvest season, the tea trees, weather, region... and so on. To simplify, there are two main reasons of caffeine in tea, the fermentation and steeping time.

In terms of fermentation, the higher fermented tea has higher caffeine. So, black tea's caffeine is higher than oolong tea, and the caffeine in green tea is less than oolong tea. The oolong tea's caffeine is half of black tea.

In terms of steep time, the longer steep time the higher caffeine of tea releases. For example, black tea releases 40-100mg caffeine with 4 minutes of steeping time, but 20-40mg caffeine has been released when steeping 3 minutes. In addition, when you brew the same tea for several times, the content decreased dramatically. Take Oriental Beauty for example, the caffeine of first brew is about 50-70mg/cup, and 15-25mg/cup for second brew, then 5-10 mg/cup in third brew. Moreover, cold brew tea has fewer caffeine, and we use it to cure gout in Taiwan.

Therefore, HOW TO REDUCE THE CAFFEINE IN YOUR TEA? 1. Reduce the steep time. 2. Drink tea from the second brew. 3. Drink less fermented tea in the evening. 4. You can try some floral and herbal tea. This Friday, you will have a chance to try our floral tea from Taiwan with no caffeine!
